Ice Hockey Drops 5-2 Decision at Saint Michael's College Saturday

Murray, Kayser score for SNHU in both games of weekend split

For the second consecutive night, junior Tyler Murray (Barre, Vt.) and freshman Ryan Kayser (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored goals, but SNHU dropped a 5-2 decision at Saint Michael's College Saturday as the teams split a Northeast-10 series.

 KEY MOMENTS
  • Ben Baxter scored a pair of goals in the first period to stake the Purple Knights to a 2-0 lead.
  • Jake Leale extended the margin to 3-0 with a goal at 13:03 of the second period.
  • Murray put the Penmen on the board just 54 seconds later.  Sophomore Stone Devlin (W. Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Coleman Nee (Arlington, Mass.) earned assists on the play.
  • Kaiser scored a power-play goal at 18:54 of the third period for the game's final goal. He found the upper corner of the net with a blast from just inside the blue line.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen had 40 shots on goal for the game while the Purple Knights had 30.
  • The Penmen went 1-for-3 on the power-play and the Purple Knights were 0-for-3.
  • Evan Plunkett earned the win in goal for Saint Michael's College.
  • All three SNHU goalies played in the contest.  Sophomore Sean Guerin (Chicago, Ill.) started the game.  Sophomore Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) came in mid-way through the second period, and senior Cam Bernard (Bedford, N.H.) finished up.
NOTES
  • Kayser and Murray each had scored a goal on Friday night in the 5-2 SNHU win.
  • The Penmen have scored a power-play goal in five of the six games this season.  SNHU has only allowed two power-play goals.
  • Saint Michael's leads the all-time series with SNHU 54-30-7.
  • The teams will play again later in the season at The Ice Den in Hooksett.  That set is scheduled for January 31 and February 1.
