Anderson Rallies #13 Women's Soccer to 2-2 tie with Saint Anselm

SNHU finishes 9-1-5 regular season, will play Hawks again Sunday

13th-ranked SNHU women's soccer rallied from a 2-0 deficit on the shoulders of graduate student Alyssa Anderson (Londonderry, N.H.) to tie Saint Anselm College 2-2 in Wednesday's regular season finale.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks took an early lead when Josie Pecor broke the ice in the seventh minute on a rebound from a shot that bounced off the crossbar. The assist came from Erin Rutherford.
  • Riley DiGilio extended the Saint Anselm lead on a similar play at 38:01, when another Rutherford shot bounced off the crossbar and found DiGillio, who headed the ball into the net.
  • Anderson cut the Hawks' lead in half when a powerful shot found the back of the net. The goal, Anderson's fifth of the season, was unassisted and came in the 42nd minute.
  • Anderson evened the score late in the game when she got the ball from Jakich-Kunze and snuck past the defense to bury the ball in the lower right corner. Prior to the goal, a flurry of opportunities had sparked the Penmen to tie the game with less than eight minutes remaining.

  • St. Anselm 'keeper Samantha Swidorski stopped eight of the ten shots she faced.
  • SNHU outshot St. A's, 19-9, including 10-3 in shots on goal.

NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire finishes as the 3rd seed in the NE10 with today's tie.
  • Saint Anselm will finish as the 6th seed in the NE10 setting up a rematch in the NE10 First Round.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series vs Saint Anselm with a record of 23-13-6. The two teams had not tied since October 30th, 2019.
  • Anderson's goal ties Jakich-Kunze for the team lead with six and her sixteen points lead the squad.  Jakich-Kunze has 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist).
  • The Penmen are unbeaten in their last 12 games at Ouellette Stadium (9-0-3).
  • The Hawks earn a point in the Queen City Cup with the Penmen.  SNHU leads 12-1 in the season-long competition after this contest.
UP NEXT
  • Sunday's game with the Hawks is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Ouellette Stadium.  This will be the first postseason meeting in women's soccer.
