Men's Tennis Serves Up 5-2 Defeat to Babson in Spring Opener

Junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) notched a win at No. 1 singles to send the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team to a 5-2 win against Babson College in its spring opener Saturday at the YMCA Allard Center.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Berling outlasted Brady Anderson, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 1 singles to push the Penmen out to a 4-1 advantage. He also combined with sophomore Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) to edge Jonah Wilson and Andrew Watson, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles.
  • Senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) downed Wilson, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, at No. 2 singles. He also cliched the doubles point with junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick), taking down Anderson and Ole Lepsoe, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles.
  • Nadeau recorded a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Lepsoe at No. 3 singles.
  • Graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) pulled away from Mattias Harrell for a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. He also teamed with freshman Jaden Williams (Green Acres, Fla.) to double up Wesley Zhang and Kerem Ozlale, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.
NOTES
  • Sophomore Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany) lost a 6-1, 4-6, 12-10 marathon at No. 6 singles to Caymus Choi.
  • SNHU improves to 2-1 all-time versus Babson and avenges last season's 4-3 loss at the YMCA Allard Center.

  • The Penmen are back in action Friday, Feb. 23 (7 p.m.) when they take on Boston College at the Woburn (Mass.) Racquet Club.
  • SNHU is slated to open its spring home schedule Saturday, April 6 versus Bentley University at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
