Women's Lacrosse Kicks Off Season with 21-2 Triumph Over St. Thomas Aquinas

Graduate students Angelina Graziano (Riverhead, N.Y.) and Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) each recorded seven points to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team to a season-opening 21-2 victory versus St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday afternoon at Spartan Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern New Hampshire dominated the first quarter, building an 11-0 lead over the opening nine-plus minutes, before tacking one on with 35 seconds on the clock to exit the stanza with a 12-0 advantage. Renaud and Cole each scored three goals in the quarter, with Graziano and Hadden adding two.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas scored the first goal of the second quarter, but two goals from Hadden and a pair of Graziano helpers powered a 4-0 stretch that sent SNHU to the halftime break with a 16-1 cushion.
  • Graziano scored one of two goals in the third quarter and tallied two of three fourth-quarter strikes, as the Penmen put it away.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Mirra stopped six of the seven shots she faced in the second half, while senior goalkeeper Megan Petko (Monroe, N.Y.) turned away two of three in the opening stanza.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas 'keeper Lilah Magenheimer made 10 saves.
  • Junior Rachel McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) scored a pair of goals.
  • Sophomore Donatella DeCicco (Kingston, N.Y.) notched a goal and an assist.
  • SNHU outshot STAC, 45-11, including 29-3 in the opening half.
  • The Penmen owned advantages in draw controls (16-10) and ground balls (22-14).
  • SNHU was 12-for-13 on its clear attempts, while STAC went 5-for-9.
  • The Spartans were 0-for-3 on their free-position attempts, while the Penmen did not take a shot.
  • STAC had 15 of the game's 21 turnovers.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire begins the season 1-0 for the third consecutive campaign.
  • The Penmen improve to 3-0 all-time versus St. Thomas Aquinas, including 2-0 on the road, and wins by a score of 21-2 for the second straight year.
  • SNHU's 45 shots are its most in a game since it attempted 46 in a 21-14 home victory against American International College on April 25, 2018.
