Zach Brassill (North Hampton, N.H.) pitched a complete-game five-hitter as SNHU defeated 15
th-ranked Molloy 5-1 to finish the Northeast Challenge at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Sunday.

KEY MOMENTS –
- The Penmen took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Singles by graduate student Jamie Roldan (Boston, Mass.), Segura, and sophomore Dyrenson Wouters (Oranjestad, Aruba) loaded the bases. Lavigne delivered the two-run single to right field to make it 2-0.
- Molloy cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Patrick Sanchez, who led off with a hit-by-pitch, advanced to second on a passed ball. He scored on a single by Matt Yip.
- The Lions had a scoring chance in the top of the sixth inning after a lead-off single by Sanchez. Brassill then picked him off. Aidan Larkin walked, and was caught stealing on a strong throw from catcher Roldan.
- SNHU extended the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. DeMaro doubled to start the inning. Molloy misplayed Segura's bunt allowing DeMaro to score . Segura moved up on a passed ball and scored on a single by Pisano to make it 4-1.
- O'Sullivan delivered a single in the eighth and Roldan walked. A single by DeMaro plated graduate student Luca Giallongo (Mt. Shasta, Calif.), who had come on as a pinch-runner to put the Penmen in front 5-1.
- Brassill finished the game with a three-pitch strikeout of Sean Serrano.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Penmen outhit the Lions 12-5 with 11 of the 12 hits singles.
- Brassill was making just the second start of the season, and of his career. He threw 128 pitches, 76 for strikes.
NOTES
- SNHU finished the Myrtle Beach trip with a 3-2 record.
- Vargas Segura hit in the lead-off position in all five games. His batting average through eight games this season is .393 with a .514 OBP. He is tied for the team lead with senior Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) with nine RBI.
- Roldan became the first SNHU catcher to throw out a runner trying to steal this season (26-for-27).
- Molloy's starter (L, 1-1) was Robert Lucano, who allowed two earned runs in his six innings with three walks and two strikeouts.
- The all-time series with Molloy is even at 12 wins apiece.
