Junior Katelyn Nichols (Manchester, N.H.) was part of the duo that clinched the doubles point and also played a marathon singles match, all while battling illness, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team edged Seton Hill University, 4-3, Saturday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Nichols combined with freshman Nadia Alden (Edmond, Okla.) for a 6-1 victory at No. 2 to over Kendall McCluskey and Maria Pereda to clinch the doubles point.
- Nichols lost a three-set thriller at No. 5 singles to Sophia Solomon, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-2), 10-8.
- Sophomore Alina Kupfer (Baldham, Germany) made quick work of Carissa Shepard at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. She also teamed with freshman Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) for a 6-2 triumph over Shepard and Kasey Storkey at No. 1 doubles.
- Abadzic was a 6-3, 6-3 winner against Pereda at No. 2 singles.
- Freshman Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) defeated Storkel, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5, to put the Penmen up, 4-1, and clinch the match.
NOTES
- Alden fell to Kaylee Kanuka, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 4 singles.
- Southern New Hampshire snaps a two-match skid with the win.
- This marked the first meeting between the two programs.
