Harry Vargas Segura (Bronx, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 and was on base seven times, as the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team split a a doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon at the Salem State University Baseball Field. SNHU rolled to a 14-6 victory in the opener, before falling, 2-1, in the second game, which was suspended after five innings with the scored tied, 1-1, and completed Sunday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- St. Thomas Aquinas jumped on redshirt-freshman starter Zach Brassill (No. Hampton, N.H.) for a pair of runs in the top of the first, but Southern New Hampshire responded with three in the home half on an RBI single to center from Lavigne and a two-run single to left by senior Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.).
- The Spartans put up a 3-spot of their own in the top of the second to take a 5-3 lead, but a sacrifice fly to left from freshman Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) in the third and run-scoring singles by Wouters and Pisano in the fourth flipped SNHU back into the lead at 6-5.
- The Penmen would break it open with a six-run sixth, highlighted by an RBI triple to right from sophomore Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.), who then scored on a wild pitch.
- The teams would trade runs in the seventh, with the Penmen adding another in the eighth on a Lavigne RBI single through the left side.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
- Brassill improved to 3-0, as he allowed five runs on six hits, while striking out four and walking five in five innings.
- Vargas Segura finished 3-for-3 with a pair of walks, a double, three runs scored and three steals.
- Pisano was 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored and a pair of walks.
- Sophomore Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs scored.
- Lavigne (two runs, two RBI, double, walk), Wouters (run, RBI, walk, steal) and Burgos (two RBI) were all 2-for-5.
- Risedorf (run, RBI, triple, walk) and Wachter (RBI, run) both went 1-for-4..
- Senior Dylan O'Sullivan (Manchester, N.H.; run) went 1-for-5 and doubled.
- SNHU held a 17-7 hit in advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Southern New Hampshire pushed across the game's first run in the bottom of the first when Lavigne grounded into a double play to score Vargas Segura, who singled to lead off the inning.
- St. Thomas Aquinas tied it in the fourth on a solo shot off the bat of Gregory DiGiaro.
- The game was suspended due to darkness after five innings and when it resumed the following morning, another solo home run from Joseph Scamardella in the sixth put the Spartans in front.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
- Wouters finished 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
- Vargas Segura went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored a run.
- Risedorf was 1-for-3 and swiped a bag.
- Lendrum allowed one run on three hits over five innings, while striking out five and only walking one.
- DeMaro (0-1) suffered the loss, as he gave up one run on two hits and struck out a batter in his two innings of work.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has won six of its last six games.
- Burgos leads the Northeast-10 conference with six homers and 17 RBIs.
- Vargas Segura, who extended his hit streak to 12 games, leads the league in stolen bases (12), while ranking third in batting (.426).
- SNHU leads the all-time series with STAC, 15-8. The Penmen have won nine of the last 11 meetings and had an eight-game winning streak snapped with the game-two loss.
