HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Franklin Pierce drew first blood against Lendrum with a leadoff double by Joey Acker, who later scored on Eli Battipaglia's sacrifice fly.
  • Southern New Hampshire wasted a leadoff walk to Vargas Segura and a single to right by sophomore Dyrenson Wouters (Oranjestad, Aruba) and left a pair in scoring position in the bottom of the first.
  • SNHU was again in danger of not capitalizing on a pair of walks and a hit batter in the third when Risedorf delivered a two-out, bases-clearing double to the gap in left-center to put the Penmen on top, 3-1.
  • Franklin Pierce pulled even in the fourth when Ian Battipaglia led off with a triple to right-center, before Kiobel Lugo hit a two-run homer down the left field line.
  • The Penmen did some two-out damage in the fifth, with an O'Sullivan double down the left field line putting the hosts back on top, 5-3, before a two-RBI single by Vargas Segura unloaded the bases and put SNHU up, 8-3.
  • SNHU nudged its advantage to 9-3 in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to sophomore Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.).
  • The Penmen tacked on a run in the eighth on a O'Sullivan sac fly to right.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Wouters went 1-for-3 with a run, two walks and three stolen bases.
  • Sophomore Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished 2-for-4 and scored a run.
  • Sophomore Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) went 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a walk.
  • Lavigne was 0-for-2, but drew three walks, knocked in a run and scored a run.
  • Graduate student Zachary Gitschier (Lowell, Mass.) allowed just one hit, while striking out three and walking a batter, in a pair of scoreless innings.
