Renaud strikes four times for SNHU

Graduate student Skylar Renaud (E. Waterboro, Maine) scored four goals, but the seventh-seeded Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team was defeated by second-seeded and third-ranked Adelphi University, 21-10, in an NE10 Championship quarterfinal tilt Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Adelphi kicked off the scoring 1:53 into the contest, Southern New Hampshire answered with a goal from junior Rachel McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) at the 10:19 mark. Renaud's first with 7:15 left in the first quarter pulled the Penmen within 3-2, but Adelphi scored five of the final seven goals of the opening frame to grab an 8-4 lead.
  • The Panthers came out and scored the first four in a second stanza they won, 5-1, to extend their lead to 13-5 at the half.
  • SNHU found the back of the next three times over the opening 6:36 of the second half, with DeLucia striking twice, to trim the deficit to 14-8, but the hosts responded with four straight to make it 18-8 with 1:42 left. Renaud scored with three seconds on the clock.
  • The Panthers scored the first three of the final frame, before Cole added the final goal with 1:51 left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Freshman Nicole Mirra (Cicero, N.Y.) made eight saves on the first 27 shots of the game in the initial 46:30. Senior Megan Petko (Monroe, N.Y.) stopped two of the four shots that came her way in the final 13:30.
  • Adelphi 'keeper Jillian McFadden stopped eight shots.
  • Graduate student Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) scored a goal, caused a pair of turnovers and won five draw controls.
  • Adelphi outshot Southern New Hampshire, 42-28, including 25-15 in the opening half.
  • Adelphi held a 19-16 advantage in draw controls. Ground balls were even at 14-all.
  • The Penmen were 9-for-17 on their clear attempts, with the Panthers going 16-for-19.
  • SNHU was 3-for-9 on its free-position attempts, while Adelphi went 4-for-8.
  • The Penmen had 17 of the game's 30 turnovers.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire had won four of its last five.
  • The Penmen dip to 5-11 (.313) in their 11th NE10 postseason appearance, including fourth straight. They are now 0-2 in the NE10 Championship against Adelphi.
  • Adelphi leads the all-time series with SNHU, 16-0, including 8-0 at home.
  • Renaud (177), Graziano (167) and Cole (158) finish third, fifth and sixth, respectively, on the program's all-time goals list. 
  • Cole (78) and Graziano (77) end their careers fifth and sixth, respectively, on the all-time assists ledger.
  • Graziano (244), Cole (236) and Renaud (216) are fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively on the career points list.
  • Renaud also sits third all-time in draw controls (241), fifth in caused turnovers (66) and 10th in ground balls (110).
  • DeLucia sets the program's new career draw controls mark at 355 and single-season record at 139.
  • On the single-season points list, Hadden (89) winds up second, while Graziano (83) ties herself and Cole from last season for fifth. In goals, Graziano (62) and Hadden (59) slot in fourth and sixth, respectively. Hadden (30) and Cole (29) end up sixth and eighth, respectively, in assists.
