Penmen Stun #9 Pace 3-2 To Open Field Hockey Season

Christis Tallies Twice for SNHU

Records: SNHU 1-0 (1-0 NE10), Pace 0-1 (0-1 NE10)

Senior Annemartine Christis (s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands) scored twice in the first half and SNHU Field Hockey held on for a 3-2 win over 9th-ranked Pace in the season opener on Saturday on Larkin Field.   The game also served as the NE10 opener for both teams.


STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
 
  • Christis scored the first goal of the season at 12:32 of the first quarter when she took a pass from junior Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands) and buried a blast into the middle of the Pace cage.
  • The second-quarter score came off a penalty corner.  Hendriks delivered the pass to Christis, who made it 2-0.
  • Anne Kopic would score for Pace just before halftime as SNHU went to the break in the lead 2-1.
  • The Penmen took a 3-1 lead when van de Poll finished off a break with her first goal of the season.  Senior Eliza Bates (Newport, N.H.) had the assist.
  • Pace would score on a penalty stroke by Isabella Boertjes in the closing minutes.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU had 13 shots on goal from 24 shots, and Pace was on net eight times from 13 shots.
  • SNHU had a 15-8 edge on penalty corners.
NOTES
  • The Penmen are 2-8 all-time against Pace, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Setters.
  • Pace was ranked #9 in the NHFCA Pre-Season poll.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will head to Bentley University for a non-conference tilt on Wednesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m.
  • SNHU will host defending national champion and top-ranked Kutztown on Larkin Field next Saturday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m.
