SNHU Scores Three In First Period For Road Win

Southern New Hampshire University Men's Ice Hockey scored three goals in the first period and carried that to a 3-2 win at Post University in Northeast-10 action on Saturday in Shelton, Conn.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS  KEY MOMENTS
  • All five goals were scored in the first period and SNHU never trailed.
  • Phillips made it 1-0 at 3:02 of the first period scoring off passes from his line mates, junior Kurt Watson (London, Ont.) and sophomore Coleman Nee (Arlington, Mass.)
  • Slingerland's power-play goal came off an interception of a pass in the Eagle zone, burying a slap shot.
  • Baxter Kimball scored the first of his two goals in a man-up situation at 11:30 to cut the Penmen lead to 2-1
  • SNHU's final goal at 15:50 of the first period was scored by McLachlan after a take-away near the Post goal.
  • Post cut the lead to 3-2 at 17:05 on a power-play goal by Kimball.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Eagles had 34 shots on goal compared to 28 by the Penmen.
  • Post went 2-for-8 on power-plays while the Penmen finished 1-for-5.
  • The Eagles had a face-off advantage of 39-32.
NOTES
  • SNHU leads the all-time series 22-6, winning eight of the last nine.  The Penmen win the season series with Post 3-games-to-1.
  • Berke improves to 9-4-1 on the season with a 2.14 goals against average.
  • Phillips collected his first career goal in his sixth game of the season.  McLachlan scored his second goal and Slingerland now has three.
  • With three weekends left in the Northeast-10 season, Saint Anselm (32 points) and Saint Michael's (26 points) are ahead of SNHU (24 points), Post (22 points), and Assumption (21 points).
