Sabrina Redding (Forked River, N.J.) each tallied three points, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team fell to Dominican (N.Y.) University, 16-9, in its season opener Sunday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas College's Spartan Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern New Hampshire started slow, trailing 4-1 at the end of the first quarter after Dominican scored the first three goals in the initial 8:24. Pietz put SNHU on the board with 5:44 with to go in the period, but the Chargers extended their lead with 1:06 on the clock.
- SNHU heated up and fought back with a four-goal second quarter, led by two goals and an assist from Hadden, as well as another strike from Pietz and Redding's first of the game, as the Penmen closed the gap to 6-5 at halftime.
- The third quarter saw Dominican pull away, scoring seven of the stanza's 10 goals. Despite the first goal of the year from sophomore Eliana Anderson (Danvers, Mass.), a goal and an assist from Redding and McLaughlin's first tally, the Chargers moved out to a 13-8 advantage.
- McLaughlin added another goal in the fourth, but Dominican sealed the win by scoring three of four in the frame.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Mirra (Cicero, N.Y.) stopped nine of 22 shots in the first three quarters. Graduate student Abby Cole (Liverpool, N.Y.) played the entire fourth quarter and turned away four of seven bids.
- Dominican 'keeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz made 10 saves.
- Anderson finished with one goal and a team-high five draw controls.
- Sophomore Charlotte Brown (Cheshire, Conn.) collected a pair of assists.
- Dominican outshot SNHU, 39-21, including 22-8 in the second half.
- The Chargers owned advantages in draw controls (15-13) and ground balls (18-12).
- SNHU was 19-for-21 on its clear attempts, while Dominican went a near-perfect 21-for-22.
- The Penmen were 2-for-5 on their free-position attempts, while the Chargers went 3-for-6.
- SNHU had 22 of the game's 33 turnovers.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire sees its streak of opening-day victories snapped at three.
- The Penmen dip to 5-1 all-time against the Chargers in the first meeting not on their home field. SNHU had outscored Dominican, 103-29, in the five previous meetings.
