Marcos Castaneda (Madrid, Spain) won his match at No. 4 singles in a tie-breaker to give Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis a 4-3 win over Saint Michael's College on Wednesday at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Castaneda won in three sets, 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 7-6 (7-2) over Benji Hegedus-Kyster, the last match to be completed after the Purple Knights won at No. 3 to tie the match at 3-3.
- Senior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) prevailed at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2
- Sophomore Carlos Molero (Barcelona, Spain) picked up a win at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3
- SNHU had won the doubles point with victories by Nadeau/Molero and by junior Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany) with sophomore Albert Modol (Lleida, Spain)
NOTES
- Roeder went to three sets, falling at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 2-6, 0-6.
- SNHU snapped a six-game losing streak to improve to 3-3 in the NE10.
- The Penmen top the Purple Knights for a 19th consecutive time to lead the all-time series 20-5.
- SNHU and Saint Michael's College have a second NE10 contest scheduled to close the regular season on April 26 in Vermont.
