Lendrum Spins Two-Hitter to Lift SNHU Baseball to Split with D'Youville

Penmen Win 10-0 After Falling 9-8 in Marathon Opener Saturday

Senior Parker Lendrum (Exeter, N.H.) tossed a complete-game two-hitter as Southern New Hampshire University baseball defeated D'Youville, 10-0, to earn a split of Saturday's doubleheader at the Ripken Experience in Aberdeen, Md. The Penmen dropped a 9-8, 14-inning decision to the Saints in the opener.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The opener was a back-and-forth battle that stretched into the 14th inning before D'Youville pushed across the winning run for a 9-8 victory.
  • Senior JR Bozek (Danville, N.H.) led the Penmen offensively, going 5-for-7 with three runs scored.
  • Senior Dakota Britt (Rockwall, Texas) finished 4-for-6 with three RBIs, including a go-ahead RBI double in the 11th inning.
  • Senior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) delivered a key swing in the seventh, launching a three-run home run to cap a four-run frame that gave SNHU a 7-3 lead. Pisano went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
  • On the mound, senior Jake Lapham (Lansingburgh, N.Y.) struck out four over 4.2 innings in the start, while senior Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) fanned seven in 4.2 innings of relief. Junior Jack Davis (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) worked the final three innings.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Lendrum was dominant in the nightcap, firing a two-hit shutout with a career-high 13 strikeouts to lead the Penmen to a 10-0 victory. The complete-game effort marked the first shutout of his career and the fourth complete game overall.
  • Lendrum allowed just one walk and needed only 105 pitches in the nine-inning masterpiece, improving to 1-1 on the season.
  • Offensively, SNHU struck first in the second inning when junior Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) launched a two-run home run to give the Penmen an early lead. Cumiskey later added a walk and scored three times in the contest.
  • Britt continued his strong day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
  • Pisano collected two hits and drove in a pair, while redshirt junior Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) delivered a two-run double during a four-run seventh inning that broke the game open.
  • The Penmen added two more runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to complete the shutout behind Lendrum's overpowering performance.
NOTES
  • Saturday's doubleheader marked the first meetings in program history between Southern New Hampshire and D'Youville.
  • Pisano's home run in the opener was the first of the season for SNHU and the 12th of his career.
  • Britt, the reigning Northeast 10 Player of the Week, is now 18-for-25 (.720) through six games with five doubles and 13 RBI.   He went 6-for-8 in Saturday's doubleheader.
  • Pisano is hitting .500 (12-for-24) with three doubles, two triples and a home run.  
  • Cumiskey's home run was his first with SNHU and the second of his career. He previously homered once as a freshman at Seton Hall.
  • The Penmen have scored 66 runs through the first six games of the season and are hitting .321 as a team.

  • The Penmen and Saints will meet for another doubleheader on Sunday in Aberdeen. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 9 a.m.
