Sophomore Piper Knowlton (Chester, N.H.) buried four goals, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team was defeated by 15th-ranked Dominican (N.Y.) University, 20-10, Saturday afternoon at Ouellette Stadium.

KEY MOMENT
  • Southern New Hampshire led, 2-1, less than four minutes in after sophomore Sabrina Redding (Forked River, N.J.) set up goals by Knowlton and redshirt-sophomore Mazie Burt (Waterford, Vt.),  but Dominican scored the final four goals of the first quarter and four of the first five in the second to take a 9-3 lead.
  • The Penmen pulled as close as 11-6 after senior Brynn Goulet (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Burt scored the first two goals of the third quarter in the opening five minutes, but the Chargers scored the next five to open a commanding 16-6 advantage heading to the final frame.
NOTES
  • Knowlton's four goals are a career high after she scored three in her collegiate debut last Saturday.
  • Redding collected three assists.
  • Burt, Goulet and freshman Ella Gray (Bow, N.H.) each notched two tallies. Gray's goals were the first of her career.
  • Freshman Kailyn Cuddahy (Leominster, Mass.) dished a pair of helpers in her collegiate debut.
  • Junior Nicole Mirra (Cicero, N.Y.) made two saves on 12 shots in 24:48 of action, while sophomore Corrina Moulton (Barre, Vt.) did the same in 35:12.
  • SNHU still leads the all-time series, 5-2, but Dominican has now won two straight. The Penmen had been a perfect 5-0 against the Chargers at home.
  • SNHU won 19 of the game's 32 draw controls.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Wednesday, March 4 (3 p.m.) when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan University.
  • The next home game for SNHU is next Saturday (March 7) at 1 p.m. when it plays host to Molloy University at Ouellette Stadium.
