Cumiskey Becomes Baseball's Single-Season HR King, But Season Ends with 12-6 Loss to Felician

Records: SNHU 41-14, Felician 35-22

Junior Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) smacked his 20th home run of the season to break the program's single-season record, but the 25th-ranked and third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University baseball team had its season ended with a 12-6 loss to Felician University on Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field in game No. 4 of the NCAA Division II East Regional II pod.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Southern New Hampshire pushed the game's first run across in the top of the third on an infield single by senior Dakota Britt (Rockwall, Texas).
  • Felician responded, however with five runs in the home half and then posted three more in the sixth to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
  • The Penmen clawed their way back in the eighth, scoring a run when Britt hit a ball hard on the ground that the second baseman could not handle. Cumiskey then brought SNHU within 8-5 with his record-breaking, three-run homer to left.
  • The Golden Falcons erased the four-run inning with a four-run frame of their own in the bottom of the eighth, however, to make it 12-5.
  • SNHU plated a run in the ninth on an RBI single up the middle by graduate student Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.).
  • Cumiskey (home run, three RBI, run) and senior JR Bozek (Danville, N.H.; double, run) were both 2-for-4.
  • Cisco finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
  • Britt (walk, RBI, run) and freshman Christian Cepin (Woodside, N.Y.) both went 1-for-4.
  • Sophomore Garrett Hammer (Auburn, N.H.) started and allowed three runs – all unearned – on two hits over two-and-a-third innings. He struck out two and walked one.
  • Five Penmen worked in relief. Junior Danny Tchou (Boca Raton, Fla.) gave up a run on two hits, while striking out a batter, in an inning-and-two thirds. Senior Parker Lendrum (Exeter, N.H.) allowed a hit in a scoreless frame.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked 25th in both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II Baseball Coaches Poll and the D2 Baseball Top 25, while receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25, ends the year having won 29 of the last 34, including six of nine, but loses consecutive games for the first time since March 21-24.
  • The Penmen fall to 50-30 (.625) in their 13th all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship, including 5-1 against Felician. SNHU is now 24-6 in the East Regional since 2021.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series, 24-8, despite Felician having won five of the previous seven. The Golden Falcons were 10-6 winners in Myrtle Beach, S.C., when the teams opened the season back on Feb. 19, while the Penmen defeated Felician, 11-5, to open the regional Thursday.
  • Cumiskey's 20th home run of the year and 21st of his career pushes him past Jorge Burgos (2024) for the most home runs in a single season at SNHU and also puts him 10th on the career list for the Penmen.
  • Senior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) finishes his Penmen career ranking second all-time in RBI (154), fourth in runs (147), sixth in batting average (.347) and doubles (37), and seventh in hits (191). This season put him first in the single-season record book in RBI (76), second in hits (83) and HBP (17), third in doubles (19), fourth in batting (.397) and seventh in runs (66).
  • Cisco extends his team-best hitting streak to 12 games, while Cumiskey's reached-base streak stands at 34 to end the year.
