Marc Hubbard

Marc Hubbard was named the seventhhead coach in Southern New Hampshire University men's soccerhistory on January 9, 2008.

Over his first five seasons,Hubbard has re-established the Penmen as one of the nation'spremier Division II programs.  Hubbard has posted a 78-18-13(.775) record over his first five years, with the Penmen earningNCAA Tournament berths in each of those seasons, including NCAAquarterfinal trips in 2009, 2011 and 2012. The Penmen have capturedtwo Northeast-10 regular season titles and two NE-10 tournamenttitles during Hubbard's tenure, and he is a two-time Northeast-10Coach of the Year.  Entering the 2013 season, Hubbard standsas the second-winningest active Division II coach in terms ofwinning percentage.

2012 saw the Penmen post a 19-4record, win the Northeast-10 Tournament title for the fourth timein program history and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for thethird time in four seasons.  Southern New Hampshire alsocaptured its first regional title since 2002, winning the EastRegion crown.  The Penmen were ranked as high as No. 3 duringthe season and ended the year fifth nationally.

In 2011, SNHU was ranked as high asNo. 4 nationally and posted a 14-match win streak, the program'slongest since 1988.  The Penmen advanced to the Northeast-10championship game as well as the NCAA quarterfinals, but wereturned back each time by Franklin Pierce by 1-0 scores. 

The 2010 season saw the Penmen posta 12-3-5 record and advance to the second round of the NCAATournament while ending the year ranked No. 16 nationally. Southern New Hampshire was in the NSCAA Top 25 for much of theseason, reaching as high as No. 2 in the country.  The Penmensurrendered just nine goals all season and finished first inDivision II in team goals against average (0.43).  SouthernNew Hampshire had a total of eight Northeast-10 All-Conferenceplayers, with three players named to All-Region squads.

In 2009, the Penmen captured theirsecond straight NE-10 regular season title and advanced to the NCAADivision II quarterfinals before falling to Le Moyne on penaltykicks.  SNHU reached the quarterfinals with a shootout victoryover Southern Connecticut and a thrilling 2OT win over Wilmingtonin the East Region semifinal.  Three players were named NSCAAAll-Americans and the Penmen captured a total of four NE-10 majorawards.  SNHU was nationally-ranked all season and finishedthe year ranked No. 8 nationally.

The Penmen exceeded allexpectations in Hubbard's first season in 2008.  Coming offthe program's first sub-.500 campaign in over two decades, SNHU waspicked sixth in the Northeast-10 preseason coaches poll. Southern New Hampshire ended the season 15-3-4 overall, earned theprogram's 14th NCAA Tournament berth, won the NE-10 Tournament forthe third time and captured a share of the league regular seasontitle for the first time.  For his efforts, Hubbard was namedthe Northeast-10 Coach of the Year as well as the adidas/NSCAA EastRegion Coach of the Year. 

A native of Durham, N.H., Hubbard spent five seasons as head coachRob Thompson's top assistant at the University of NewHampshire.  During his tenure, the Wildcats advanced to theAmerica East Conference semifinals in 2006 and 2007 and posted a12-5-3 record in 2006 which earned the UNH coaching staff theAmerica East Coaching Staff of the Year award.  In 2005 NewHampshire was ranked No. 1 in New England for just the second timein program history and was ranked No. 23 nationally.  UNH was40-30-21 over Hubbard's tenure and during that span produced twoAmerica East Goalkeeper of the Year selections, one Rookie of theYear, one Offensive Player of the Year, 14 All-America East andseven NSCAA All-Region players.

UNH's success during Hubbard'stenure came off the field as well as the program had its firstAcademic All-American in 2005.  29 players earned All-Academichonors from America East, while in 2007 New Hampshire earnedrecognition from the NCAA for its Academic Progress Rate (APR) of995.  The Wildcats also received a NSCAA Team AcademicAchievement Award in 2006 and 2007.

A 2003 graduate of ColgateUniversity, Hubbard enjoyed a stellar four-year career with theRaiders.  He was a three-time Patriot League Second Teamselection and earned NSCAA All-New York honors as a senior. Hubbard also served as team captain and was the president ofColgate's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from2001-03.

Hubbard has also played on theprofessional level, spending three years with the New HampshirePhantoms of the USL Second Division, serving as team captain in2006 & 2007.  In 2006, Hubbard was a USL First Teamselection and a Defender of the Year finalist. He also hasprofessional experience with the Wilmington (NC) Hammerheads andthe Syracuse Salty Dogs.

A 1999 graduate of Oyster RiverHigh School, Hubbard led the Bobcats to the New Hampshire Class Ititle as a senior while racking up 23 goals and 18 assists. He was an All-New England selection and was named Player of theYear by both Foster's Daily Democrat and the PortsmouthHerald.  Hubbard played club soccer with Seacoast United andcaptained the U-18 team to a New Hampshire statechampionship.  He later went on to coach with SUSC, leadingthe U-16 squad to a state title in 2005.  He has also coachedin the US Soccer Development Academy League with Seacoast United.Currently, Hubbard runs Soccer Sphere (www.soccersphere.org), a year round soccertraining and camp business and is the Coaching Director forHampshire Football Club/Amherst Soccer Club.

Hubbard graduated from Colgate in2003 with a degree in Political Science.  He later went on toearn his master's at UNH in Kinesiology: Sports Studies in2006.

Hubbard is married to Molly(Plimpton) and they reside in Durham, N.H. with their son Harperand daughters Hazel and Harlow.
