Stonehill Rallies Past
Men's Hoop in Second Half

Rudowitz (Monroe Township, NJ) finished with 17 points and
10 rebounds to lead visiting Stonehill College to a 73-60
Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire
University at the SNHU Fieldhouse Tuesday night. The Skyhawks
improve to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are
now 1-1 and 0-1 in the league.
Rudowitz was 11-12 at the free
throw line and led four Skyhawks in double figures.
Nick Smith (Colonia, NJ) finished with 14 points
while Matt Hall (Springfield, MA) and
Vince Rosario (Perth Amboy, NJ) added 13 points
apiece for Stonehill.
Gerald Carter
(Harlem, NY) was 8-8 at the free throw line and led Southern New
Hampshire with 14 points and six rebounds. Sam
Carey (Manchester, NH) had 13 points and seven boards,
while Chris Brickley (Manchester, NH) finished
with 10 points. Troy Bowen (Nashua, NH)
drained a pair of three pointers and added eight points.
Stonehill trailed 34-29 at halftime
but outscored SNHU 23-8 over the first nine minutes of the second
half to take a 52-42 lead with 11:13 left on a layup by Hall.
The Skyhawks would take their largest lead, 64-52, with 4:06
to play on a pair of Smith free throws. Southern New
Hampshire would use a 8-1 spurt capped by a Bowen three from the
top of the key with 1:48 left to cut the lead to five, 65-60, but
Stonehill would seal the victory by converting two layups and
making four free throws in the final minute.
The Penmen jumped out to a 9-0 lead
just over three minutes into the game when Brickley hit a three at
the 16:45 mark and extended that lead to 21-7 at the 11:39 mark
following a Bowen basket. The guests would claw their way
back in the game and scored eight unanswered points to make it
21-15 at the 8:34 mark. Stonehill cut the lead to one, 28-27,
with 3:10 left on a pair of Hall free throws before SNHU got two
free throws from Carter and a Tory Stapleton
(Rahway, NJ) basket to take a 32-27 lead into intermission.
Stonehill shot a blistering 68.2%
(15-22) over the final 20 minutes and 54.8% (23-42) for the game.
The Penmen shot just 25.8% (8-31) in the second half and were
3-18 (16.7%) from three-point land. The two teams went to the
free throw line a combined 46 times, with Stonehill 21-26 at the
charity stripe and SNHU 19-20. The Skyhawks owned a 32-28
rebounding edge.
SNHU returns to action Sunday when
it travels to Le Moyne College for a 3:00 Northeast-10 game.
