Men's Basketball Falls to
Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Despite 25 points and 16 rebounds
from Sam Carey (Manchester, NH), the Southern New
Hampshire University men's basketball team was dealt an 85-72 loss
at Pace University at the Goldstein Center Saturday
afternoon. The Penmen are now 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the
Northeast-10, while the Setters improve to 3-3 and 3-1 in the
league.
Carey, a senior, finished 9-17 from
the floor. Gerald Carter (Harlem, NY)
totaled 19 points and nine rebounds for the Penmen, while
Cory Vejraska (Alachua, FL) finished with eight
points. Gibraltar White led five Pace players in double
figures with 16 points.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out
to a 8-0 lead just under four minutes into the game following a
Carey basket and took its largest lead, 16-7, with 12:13 before
halftime following a Vejraska basket. The Setters went on a
10-1 run and a three from Laurence McGee tied the game 17-17 with
9:42 left. Pace closed out the first half on a 14-5 run and a
Jon Jones basket with 1:16 before halftime made it 36-27 at
halftime.
Pace would gradually pull away in
the second half and took its largest lead, 77-54, with 6:36 to play
on a Jones layup. The Penmen would close out the game on a
9-2 run to account for the 85-72 final.
Southern New Hampshire owned a
commanding 49-31 rebounding advantage, including a 19-11 edge on
the offensive glass, but the Penmen were haunted by 23 turnovers.
SNHU returns to action Tuesday
night when it plays at crosstown rival Saint Anselm College in a
7:30 contest.
