MANCHESTER, N.H. - Gabe Mercier's
(Middleboro, MA) goal with 12:48 remaining lifted Southern New
Hampshire University to a 1-0 Northeast-10 men's soccer victory
over crosstown rival Saint Anselm College at Larkin Field Wednesday
night. The Penmen remain unbeaten on the season at 1-0-3
overall and 1-0-1 in NE-10 play, while the Hawks fall to 1-3-1 and
0-2 in the league.
After a scoreless first half,
Mercier would score the game's only goal in the 78th minute.
He would cause a turnover 25 yards from the Hawk goal and after two
dribbles, fired a 15-yarder into the upper right corner of the goal
for his first tally of the season. The goal was unassisted.
Dan Pelc
(Hamilton, ONT) made three saves en route to his third straight
shutout and 20th of his career. He now sits in sole
possession of third place on the school's all-time shutout list,
one behind Erik Fernstrom's 21. Pelc has not allowed a goal
over his last 330:07 of action. Scott
Johnson (Plymouth, MA) made four saves for the Hawks, who
were outshot 8-7.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday, September 8 when it travels to Bryant University
for an 11:00 match. Saint Anselm also returns to action on
Saturday when it heads to Assumption College for an 11:00 tilt.
