BOX SCORE
LOWELL, Mass. - Host UMass Lowell scored
twice early in the second half as it upended No. 5 Southern New
Hampshire University 2-0 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Tuesday night
at Cushing Field. The River Hawks improved to 10-2-4 overall
and 9-1-3 in the NE-10, while the Penmen, who saw a 14-game
unbeaten streak dating back to a September 3 loss to Wilmington
snapped, are now 13-2-3 and 9-1-3 in the league. The game
marked the regular season finale for both schools.
Despite the loss, the Penmen still
claim a share of the Northeast-10 regular season crown along with
UMass Lowell. The Penmen enter the upcoming NE-10 Tournament
as the No. 2 seed due to NE-10 tiebreaker policies and will host
seventh-seeded Assumption College Sunday. Game time will be
announced Thursday.
After a scoreless first half, UMass
Lowell got on the board at the game's 50:54 mark when Matt Dubois
headed home a volley from Stephen Potcner to give the River Hawks a
1-0 advantage. The hosts would double their lead in the
66th minute when Rudy Kocandrle knocked home a rebound
of an initial blocked shot by Matheus Candido.
Ryan Richards turned aside a pair
of shots in goal for UMass Lowell en route to the shutout.
Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, MA) made two saves for
Southern New Hampshire, which outshot UMass Lowell 12-8.
