MANCHESTER, N.H. - Fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire
University posted its 10th shutout of the season as it
defeated Assumption College 3-0 in Northeast-10 men's soccer
Wednesday night at Larkin Field. The Penmen, who are unbeaten
in their last 10 games (8-0-2), improved to 10-1-2 overall and
6-0-2 in NE-10 play, while the Greyhounds suffered their first
league loss and are now 4-3-3 and 3-1-3 in the league.
SNHU got on the board just 2:07
into the contest. Jayme Kapinos (Ludlow, MA)
delivered a pass into Paulson Edum (Calabar,
Nigeria), who fired a shot inside the left post to give the Penmen
a 1-0 advantage. Southern New Hampshire would carry the 1-0
lead into halftime.
The Penmen would make it 2-0 8:12
into the second half when they were awarded a free kick at the top
of the box. Kevin Woods (Alyth, Scotland)
arced a shot into the upper right corner to put SNHU up 2-0.
Ransford Shand (Brooklyn, NY) would close out the
scoring at the 71:11 mark when he collected a ball after an
Assumption turnover and dribbled in alone and scored.
Sean Lambert
(Rehoboth, MA) and Joey Kapinos (Ludlow, MA)
combined on the shutout for SNHU, with Lambert going the first
76:14 and making two saves. Kapinos was not forced to make a
save the rest of the way. Brandan Sullivan took the loss in
net for Assumption, going the first 76:14 and stopping five
shots. The Penmen outshot their guests 19-3 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts No. 14 Le Moyne in a
battle of nationally-ranked teams at Larkin Field. Kickoff is
set for 1:00 pm.
