BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Troy Bowen's (Nashua, NH) layup with two seconds remaining lifted Southern New Hampshire University to a 63-61 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over Pace University at the SNHU Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.  The win stopped a two-game slide for the Penmen as they improve to 12-11 overall and 9-9 in the NE-10.  The Setters dropped their fourth in a row to move to 9-13 and 8-9 in the league.

Bowen, who finished with 13 points, all of those coming in the second half, was one of three Penmen in double figures.  Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) totaled 23 points and 16 rebounds and had a double-double in the opening 20 minutes (14 pts, 10 reb).  Cory Vejraska (Alachua, FL) added 10 points, while Chase Miller (Fairfax, VA) handed out nine assists and had six points on a pair of three pointers.  Gerald Carter (Harlem, NY) registered eight points and eight rebounds.

Gibraltar White (Gautier, MS) led Pace with 16 points.  Ryan Williams (Centreville, VA) canned four three-pointers and finished with 15 points, while Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, NY) added 12 points.

SNHU trailed most of the second half and was down 54-46 with just over 11 minutes to play when it scored seven straight to pull within one on a Bowen basket at the 8:02 mark.  The Penmen would tie the game 56-56 with just over five minutes left on a three by Carter and took their first lead since midway through the first half on a Carey layup that made it 58-56 with 4:03 to play.

Quincy-Jones would make 1-of-2 at the free throw line on Pace's next possession.  Bowen would extend the lead to four, 61-57, with 3:22 to go on his third three of the game.  Neither team would score again until the 1:32 mark when Williams made 1-of-2 at the line.  The two teams would trade empty trips but Williams would drain a three from the left corner with 24 seconds left to tie the game at 61-61.  SNHU would call timeout with 17 seconds to play.  On the final play, Miller delivered a baseline pass from the right corner to Bowen in the post, who would lay it in over a Setter defender with two seconds left.  A final desperation heave by Pace was blocked.

Pace led 37-29 at halftime and led by as many as nine early in the second half before a 7-0 run capped by a Bowen three with 13:49 to go got the Penmen within one, 42-41.  The guests would score the next five points to take a 47-41 lead with 12:57 left on a Williams three and got the lead as high as eight, 54-46, with just under 11 minutes left on a Jon Jones (Dover, NH) basket.

In a first half that saw a pair of ties and eight lead changes, Pace would take the lead for good with 7:06 left before halftime on a three-pointer by White that gave the Setters a 25-24 advantage.  The guests closed the half on a 15-5 run and a three by Williams with 47 seconds to play gave Pace a 37-29 lead at intermission.

SNHU outrebounded Pace 40-29, including a 15-8 edge on the offensive glass.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to Stonehill College for a 7:30 contest.
