MANCHESTER, N.H. - Adrian Schippers (Ashby, MA) totaled
two goals and an assist as host Southern New Hampshire University
scored three times in the final 21 minutes to post a 3-0 men's
soccer victory over Caldwell College at Larkin Field Saturday
afternoon. The Penmen remain unbeaten at 2-0, while the
Cougars are now 1-1 on the season.
Despite outshooting Caldwell 10-1
in the first 45 minutes, the game remained scoreless until
Schippers, in his first season at SNHU after spending two seasons
at Springfield College, scored with exactly 21 minutes to play,
putting home a feed from Gabe Mercier (Middleboro,
MA). Schippers struck again 3:12 later when he scored on an
assist from Michael Adam (Ludlow, MA). Adam
would then close out the scoring, notching the Penmen's third goal
in a span of 6:40 at the 75:40 mark when he scored on an assist
from Schippers.
Sean Lambert
(Rehoboth, MA) earned the win in goal for SNHU, turning aside one
shot in 80:30 of action before being relieved by Joey
Kapinos (Ludlow, MA), who was not forced to make a save
over the final 9:30. John Plaugic (Kearny,
NJ) played the first 83:42 in net for the Cougars and made four
saves, taking the loss.
SNHU outshot Caldwell 18-5,
including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. Over the first
two games of the season, the Penmen have outshot their opponents
44-7, including a 20-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday when it travels to Wilmington (DE) University for
a 1:00 contest.
