BOX SCORE
WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Paulson Edum (Calabar, Nigeria) and
Matt Delaney (Wallasey, England) each scored goals
to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-1 win over the
University of New Haven in Northeast-10 men's soccer Tuesday
afternoon. The Penmen, who have won four straight, improved
to 6-1 and 3-0 in the NE-10, while the Chargers are now 2-4 and 1-2
in the league.
Edum got the Penmen on the board
just over nine minutes into the game. At the 9:26 mark, he
took a pass from Adrian Schippers (Ashby, MA) 12
yards out and one-timed it past New Haven keeper James
Hilaire.
Southern New Hampshire would carry
the 1-0 lead into halftime and made it 2-0 with 6:16 left in the
game when Delaney scored off a corner kick lifted into the box
by Michael Adam (Ludlow, MA). That
goal proved crucial when New Haven's Marco Matute-Criollo scored
off a cross from Nick Pezzente with 51 seconds to play to end
SNHU's bid for its fourth straight shutout.
Sean Lambert
(Rehoboth, MA) went the distance in net for SNHU and made one save,
while Hilaire stopped 10 shots for New Haven. The Penmen
outshot the Chargers 20-4.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Saturday when it steps out of conference for the final
time this season, facing Dowling College on the road. Game
time is set for 1:00.
