NEW CASTLE, Del. - Host Wilmington University scored just
over 12 minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie and
would go on to post a 1-0 men's soccer victory over Southern New
Hampshire University at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex Wednesday
afternoon. The Wildcats, who were the preseason favorite in
the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) coaches poll,
improve to 2-0-1 overall, while the Penmen are now 2-1-0 on the
season.
After the two teams kept each other
off the scoreboard in the opening 45 minutes, Selekie Kamara would
score the game's lone goal 12 minutes into the second stanza when
he blasted a shot from 30 yards out that found the upper right
corner of the goal. Fatoma Turay assisted on the tally.
Ethan Kavanagh recorded his second
consecutive shutout for Wilmington and made one save. SNHU
keeper Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, MA) went the
distance and did not make a save. His scoreless streak, which
dated back to last season, was snapped at 416 minutes, 20 seconds.
Wilmington outshot Southern New
Hampshire 7-2 for the contest.
SNHU returns to action Saturday
when it hosts Saint Thomas Aquinas College in a 1:00 game at Larkin
Field.
