BOX SCORE

WORCESTER, Mass. - Host Assumption College used a balanced attack, placing six players in double figures as it posted a 82-75 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon at Laska Gymnasium.  Assumption improved to 10-5 and 8-3 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 8-8 and 4-7 in the league.

Greg Twomey led the Greyhounds with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Savoy Fraine also totaled 14 points.  Kevin Donahue had 13 points off the bench, while Courtland Bluford finished with 11 points.  Mike Baldarelli and Mitch Bajema each added 10 points.

Tory Stapleton (Rahway, NJ) led Southern New Hampshire with 19 points and eight rebounds off the bench.  Josh Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, MD) connected on five three-pointers and the freshman finished with a season-high 15 points.  Stephen Wood (South Jamaica Queens, NY) added 12 points, while Troy Bowen (Nashua, NH) and Marcus Matthews (Valley Stream, NY) each scored 11 points.

Morgan-Green and the Penmen came out on fire, as he connected on all four of his three-point attempts in the game's first 2:58, and a Bowen layup at the 16:31 mark gave SNHU a 16-4 lead.  Southern New Hampshire took its largest lead, 23-10, on a jumper by Wood with 13:34 in the first half.  Assumption would then reel off eight unanswered points and a Donahue basket at the 12:15 mark made it 23-18.  The hosts cut the lead to one twice, but the Penmen closed the half on a 7-0 run and took a 38-30 lead into halftime.

Southern New Hampshire led 54-47 with 11:02 to play following two free throws by Stapleton, but the Greyhounds took their first lead of the game by going on a 10-0 run in which Assumption hit three straight threes, the last at 8:53 by Donahue to make it 57-54.  The hosts extended the lead to five, 61-56, on a tip-in by Baldarelli with 7:41 left.

The guests reclaimed the lead with just under three minutes left when Wood scored to make it 70-69.  Twomey connected behind the arc on the next Assumption trip to make it 72-70, but the Penmen would tie the game twice in the next minute, with Wood sinking a pair at the line with 1:53 left to knot it at 74.  Bajema scored on the Greyhounds next possession and after SNHU turned it over on its next trip, Patrick Shea made a basket with 47 seconds to go.  Assumption sealed the win by going 5-6 at the line.

After hitting five of its 10 three-point attempts in the first half, SNHU was 0-5 behind the arc over the final 20 minutes.  The Penmen held a 35-34 rebounding edge.

SNHU returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to American International College for a 7:30 contest.
