Senior Kevin Woods (Alyth, Scotland) totaled a
goal and two assists as fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire
University posted a 4-1 Northeast-10 men's soccer victory over The
College of Saint Rose at Albany Academy Saturday afternoon.
The Penmen, who have won seven of their last eight games and are
unbeaten in 13 straight (11-0-2), improved to 12-1-2 overall and
9-0-2 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights are 2-12-1 and 1-9-1
in the league.
Southern New Hampshire would score
three goals in a span of 4:36 late in the first half to take a 3-0
lead. Woods got the Penmen on the board at the 34:49 mark
when he took a feed from Danny Hernandez (Salem,
N.H.) and scored. Just under a minute later, P.J.
Burnette (Brunswick, Maine) redirected a shot attempt in
the box by Michael Adam (Ludlow, Mass.) following
a restart for the eventual game-winner. Woods also assisted
on the tally. Adam would add an unassisted tally at the 39:25
mark.
Saint Rose would get on the board
19 seconds before halftime when Justin Little converted a penalty
kick.
Hernandez would make it 4-1 three
minutes into the second half when he took a feed from Woods and
found the lower left corner of the goal. It marked Woods'
second assist of the afternoon.
Joey Kapinos
(Ludlow, Mass.) went the distance in net for Southern New Hampshire
and made one save en route to the victory. Patrik Ohlsson
made three saves as the Penmen outshot the Golden Knights 12-5.
Southern New Hampshire returns home
on Tuesday night when it hosts Bentley University in a 7:00 contest
at Larkin Field. The Penmen can wrap up their second straight
Northeast-10 regular season title with a win Tuesday.
