WORCESTER, Mass. - Adrian Schippers (Ashby,
Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist for the sixth-ranked Southern
New Hampshire men's soccer team as they defeated Assumption College
2-1 on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match at Multi-Sport
Stadium. The Penmen, winners of their last five and unbeaten
in their last 10 (9-0-1), improved their record to 7-0-1 within the
NE-10 and 10-1-1 overall. The Greyhounds fall to 7-4 overall
with a 4-3 mark within the conference.
With the win, SNHU has recorded its
best record after 12 games since 1998, when it also opened the
season 10-1-1.
Schippers scored the first goal for
the Penmen in the 27th minute, as he collected the ball
off of a save of an initial shot by Ethan Lapierre
(Manchester, N.H.). The goal, was his team-leading
eighth. Lapierre was credited with an assist on the
tally. The second Penmen goal was scored by Marc
Goulet (Plainville, Conn.) on a feed from Schippers in the
51st minute. The blast from the top of the box was
Goulet's second goal of the season.
SNHU's shutout bid ended with a
Steve Blaisdell goal off of a Pat Lindberg feed with just over nine
minutes to play in the second half.
Penmen goalie Sean
Lambert (Rehoboth, Mass.) made three saves on the
afternoon while Greyhound keeper Brandan Sullivan turned aside
seven shots. Southern New Hampshire outshot Assumption 12-11.
The Southern New Hampshire
University men's soccer team will travel to Colchester, Vermont
next Saturday to take on Saint Michael's College in a 3:00
tilt. The Penmen return home the following Wednesday (Oct.
14) as they take on Saint Anselm College in a 7:00 contest at
Larkin Field.
