SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. -
Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, Mass.) extended his
shutout streak to 515:26 and No. 8 Southern New Hampshire
University got goals from three different players as it topped
American International College 3-0 in Northeast-10 men's soccer
Saturday night at Larkin Field. The Penmen, who have now
posted five straight shutouts and are unbeaten in their last six
games (5-0-1), improve to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the
NE-10. The Yellow Jackets are 3-5 and 1-3 in the league.
Danny Hernandez
(Salem, N.H.) got the Penmen on the board in the 16th
minute. Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) took
a shot from the top of the box following a free kick that was
stopped by AIC goalie Ryan Brooks-Newman, but Hernandez circled
around, collected the rebound, and fired it past
Brooks-Newman. SNHU would hold a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Penmen doubled their advantage
1:50 into the second half. Brooks-Newman stopped a blast from
the top of the box by Ruben Resendes (Fall River,
Mass.) and gave up a rebound to PJ Burnette
(Brunswick, Maine). Burnette's initial attempt was stopped,
but Burnette would score on a second effort. Resendes made it
3-0 when he took a pass from Jayme Kapinos
(Ludlow, Mass.) and put it home from 14 yards into the far left
post.
Lambert made three saves en route
to the shutout, his fifth of the season. Brooks-Newman made
seven stops for the Yellow Jackets, who were outshot 20-10.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday night when it travels to UMass Lowell for a 7:00
contest. The River Hawks handed the Penmen two of their three
defeats last season, including in the second round of the NCAA
Tournament.
