MANCHESTER, N.H. - Adrian
Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) totaled two goals and an assist
in his 2009 debut as No. 20 Southern New Hampshire University
scored three times in the second half to post a 3-1 men's soccer
victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College Thursday night at Larkin
Field. The Penmen improved to 2-1 with the win, while the
Spartans are 0-2 on the season.
SNHU trailed 1-0 at halftime, but
the Penmen would tie the game just 37 seconds into the second
half. Schippers took a pass from Michael
Adam (Ludlow, Mass.) and fired a shot that deflected off
the hand of STAC keeper Nicholas Croce. Schippers would give
the Penmen the lead in the 81st minute when he headed
home a rebound after his initial shot was stopped by Croce.
Kevin Woods (Alyth, Scotland) would add an
insurance goal for Southern New Hampshire 30 seconds later when he
converted a feed from Danny Hernandez (Salem,
N.H.). Schippers also assisted on the goal.
Saint Thomas Aquinas scored their
lone goal in the 22nd minute when Ronald Demshick fired
a ground ball past SNHU keeper Sean Lambert
(Rehoboth, Mass.) following a scramble in front of the net.
Jesse Trajkovski assisted on the goal.
Lambert finished with a pair of
saves for Southern New Hampshire as the Penmen outshot the Spartans
31-6. Croce turned aside nine shots for Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts No. 9 Wilmington in a 1:00 contest at
Larkin Field.
