RINDGE,
N.H. – No. 1 Franklin Pierce University took an
early 1-0 lead and it was all they would need as the Ravens blanked
No. 10 Southern New Hampshire University by that score in
Northeast-10 men's soccer Tuesday night at Sodexo
Field. FPU, which extended its unbeaten streak to 12 games,
improved to 13-1-1 overall and 11-0-1 in the NE-10, while the
Penmen saw a six-game unbeaten streak snapped and are 11-2-3 and
7-2-3 in the league.
Diego Tabares
gave the Ravens a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. He
dribbled down the right side and delivered a blast that snuck under
the crossbar in the center of the goal.
FPU keeper Vinny
Papageorgiou made five saves en route to the shutout, while Penmen
goalie Jon Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) made five
stops. Franklin Pierce generated a 10-9 shot advantage, while
the Penmen held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
Southern New
Hampshire closes out the regular season Saturday when it travels to
Le Moyne for a 1:00 contest, its fourth straight road game.
The Penmen need at least a tie with the Dolphins to secure a
first-round home game in the Northeast-10 Tournament that kicks off
Tuesday, November 2.
