MANCHESTER, N.H. – Greg Coache, the
third-year head coach of the Southern New Hampshire University
women's tennis team, has been named the Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Coach of the Year, it was
announced recently.
In 2009-10, Coache has guided the Penmen to the best season in
program history. To date, Southern New Hampshire has posted a
19-1 record and is currently on an 18-match win streak.
SNHU's lone loss of the season came to Division I
Dartmouth. The Penmen captured the first Northeast-10 regular
season title in program history with a 13-0 league mark, then went
on to win their first-ever NE-10 Tournament title with a 5-2 win
over Stonehill College. Coache has already been recognized as
the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year.
Over his first three seasons, Coache has compiled a 39-12 record
and guided SNHU to at least the NE-10 semifinals each season.
In 2008-09, the Penmen earned the program's first-ever NCAA
Tournament berth and advanced to the second round. This
season, Southern New Hampshire has qualified for the NCAAs again as
the No. 3 seed in the East Region and will face sixth-seeded
Adelphi University Friday at 4:00 at Queens College in Flushing,
N.Y.
