Yellow Jackets Sting Men's Basketball 73-59

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Allen Aragbaye totaled 24 points as American International College cruised to a 73-59 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University at Butova Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets improve to 11-3 overall and 7-2 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 5-8 and 1-8 in the league.

Aragbaye finished 7-11 from the floor and 4-6 behind the arc to lead four Yellow Jackets in double figures.  Isiah Wallace totaled 23 points and 11 rebounds for AIC, while Anthony Thomas and Adrian Hynes-Guery each added 10 points.  Denzel Jackson hauled in 15 rebounds.

Cory Vejraska (Alachua, Fla.) paced Southern New Hampshire with 13 points while Billy Marsden (Pelham, N.H.) and Lucas Croteau (Rochester, N.H.) chipped in with 10 and nine points, respectively.

American International never trailed and  opened up a 16-5 lead seven minutes into the game following a Wallace basket.  The Yellow Jackets used a 9-0 spurt to build a 20-point lead, 37-17, with 4:11 left before halftime on an Aragbaye layup, and the hosts took a 41-26 lead into the locker room.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 12-2 run punctuated by a conventional three-point play by Wallace with 16:23 left that made it 53-28.  The Penmen would use a 7-0 spurt capped by a Marsden three with 2:42 left to pull within 11, and made it 69-59 with 1:13 left on a Croteau three, but would get no closer.

AIC owned a commanding 49-23 rebounding advantage on the afternoon while limiting SNHU to 30.8% shooting in the first half and 36.4% for the game.  The Penmen did knock down 10 of their 22 three-point attempts, but AIC was 14-14 at the free throw line while the guests were 9-14 at the stripe.

SNHU returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Saint Rose in a 7:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
