MANCHESTER, N.H.—Megan Lyons totaled 15 kills and 10 digs to lead the Southern Connecticut State University Owls to a 3-0 win against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in NE-10 Conference play, while the win boosts the visiting Owls to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Game scores were 27-25, 25-22, and 25-16.
Megan Lesczynski (Pine Bush, N.Y.) led the Penmen with 12 kills on the afternoon. Erica Solomon (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) added 11 kills for SNHU and also posted seven digs. Danielle Coffey (Westborough, Mass.) led the Penmen defensively at the net with a match-high four blocks, while Kendra Mikuta (Orland Park, Ill.) dished out a team-high 28 assists. Peyton Williams (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Penmen in digs with 15.
In addition to Lyons, the Owls were led offensively by Sarah Beres who totaled eight kills. Lauren McVey posted a team-best 14 kills for SCSU, while Kimberley Lachowicz dished out a match-high 31 assists. Syriah Celestine led the Owls at the net with three blocks.
The Owls connected for 40 kills out of 95 attempts for a kill percentage of .263 on the afternoon. The visiting Owls held the Penmen to a hitting percentage of .191 en route to the win.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts cross-town rival Saint Anselm College at 7:00 p.m. in the SNHU Fieldhouse.
