EAST HAVEN, Conn.—Danielle Coffey (Westborough, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University volleyball team tallied eight blocks to set the new all-time career blocks record with 333 in the Penmen's 3-0 loss to the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday evening. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 4-11 overall and 2-6 in NE-10 play, while the Chargers improve to 13-4, and 8-0 in league play.
Game scores were 25-23, 25-20, and 25-21.
Coffey's 333 career blocks surpass the previous all-time high of 331 set by 2011 graduate Stephanie Dluginski. Coffey also added five kills in the loss for SNHU. Erica Solomon (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) posted a team-best eight kills for the Penmen while Ashlee Daoust (Brookline, N.H.) also added five kills. Kendra Mikuta (Orland Park, Ill.) dished out 14 assists, while Solomon led the team in digs with 11.
Keidy Candelaria led the Chargers with 10 kills, while Margo Meteyer and Elizabeth Akinbiyi each added nine kills apiece. Kaulana Ane posted a match-high 41 assists, while Heather Ladao contributed a match-high 14 kills.
The Chargers hit at a .107 percent on the evening while holding the visiting Penmen to a hitting percentage of .045.
The Penmen return to action on Friday, October 21 when they host the College of Saint Rose at 7:00 p.m.
