Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sixteenth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University scored three times in the second half en route to a 3-0 Northeast-10 men's soccer win over Southern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.  The Penmen upped their win streak to eight games (six straight shutouts) and are now 11-2 and 8-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Owls are 5-6-1 and 4-4-1 in the league.

SNHU's current eight game win streak is its longest since 2002 when it won 11 in a row.  The win over Southern Connecticut was the first for the Penmen since 2006.

After a scoreless first half, the Penmen got on the board just 37 seconds into the second half.  Miguel Carneiro (New Milford, Conn.) sent a right-to-left corner kick into the box, which Jon Brockway (Lebanon, N.H.) collected and one-touched home on the left side for his second goal of the season.

Southern New Hampshire made it 2-0 with just over 10 minutes to play.  An initial penalty kick attempt by Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) glanced off the left post, but he collected the rebound and fired it home for his 11th goal of the season.  The hosts added an insurance goal in the 86th minute when Yannick Kabala (Manchester, N.H.) and Jordan Branco (Norton, Mass.) got past the SCSU defense, with Kabala feeding Branco for his fifth goal of the year.

Jon Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) made three saves en route to his fourth shutout of the season, while Southern Connecticut keeper Andrew Esposito turned aside seven shots as the Penmen outshot the Owls 16-9.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to UMass Lowell for a 7:00 contest.  The Penmen and River Hawks are currently tied for second in the Northeast-10 with identical 8-2 league marks.
