WALTHAM, Mass.—Kasey Morrison (Hampton, N.H.) and Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) both scored twice to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to 4-4 double-overtime tie on the road against Northeast-10 Conference opponent Bentley University on Wednesday afternoon. With the tie, the Penmen now stand at 9-6-2 overall and 7-5-2 in NE-10 play, while the Falcons now sit at 6-9-2 overall and 5-7-2 in league play.
With the tie, the Penmen clinch a slot in the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference tournament.
Morrison would tally the lone goal of the first half, scoring from 20 yards out in the 14th minute of the game. The Penmen would carry the 1-0 lead into the second half.
Five minutes into the second half, Roberge would tally her first goal of the game on a shot from the top of the penalty box. The Penmen would take the 3-0 advantage at the 56:04 mark as Emily Donahue (Bristol, R.I.) fed Morrison for the 15-yard shot.
Bentley would answer with its first goal 36 seconds later as Katie Moroney scored off of a free kick. 3:02 later, the Falcons would score again Deirdre Leary notched her third goal of the season. In the 63rd minute of the game, Bentley would even the score at 3-3 as Molly Alferi cranked a shot from 40 yards.
The score would remain tied until the 74th minute when scored her second goal of the game when Ariel Teixeira (Warren, R.I.) fed the ball from the goal line to Roberge, positioned at the top of the penalty box, who one-touched it into the net to give the Penmen the 4-3 advantage.
With just 2:49 remaining in regulation, Bentley's Moroney notched her second goal of the game to even the score at 4-4 and force overtime. Both overtime periods would remain scoreless, setting tie.
Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) posted three saves in net for the Penmen, while Falcons goalkeeper Christiana Hynds tallied five saves.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday for the final regular season game of the season against the University of New Haven at Larkin Field. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
