Men's Soccer Sinks League-Leading Dolphins 4-1

Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University got goals from four different players as it defeated Le Moyne College 4-1 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.  The Penmen won their second straight to improve to 5-2 and 3-2 in the NE-10, while the Dolphins, who entered Saturday in first place in the league, are now 4-3-1 and 3-1 in conference.

Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) led the Penmen with a goal and two assists, while Ruben Resendes (Fall River, Mass.) recorded a goal and an assist.  Jordan Branco (Norton, Mass.) and Carter Lincoln (Essex Junction, Vt.) also tallied goals for the hosts.

Casey Murphy had the lone Le Moyne goal in the 88th minute to spoil SNHU's shutout bid.

Tsonis got the Penmen on the board at the 19:42 mark when he took a through ball from Miguel Carneiro (New Milford, Conn.) and dribbled off to the left.  He fired a shot from 15 yards that diving Le Moyne keeper Matthew Silva was able to get a touch on, but the momentum carried it in for Tsonis' conference-leading seventh goal of the season.  The hosts carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Southern New Hampshire doubled its lead 1:15 into the second half.  Tsonis sent a long crossing pass in to the far left post, which Branco was able to put into the upper left corner for his first goal of the season.  The hosts made it 3-0 in the 64th minute when Resendes buried a shot from the top of the box on feeds from Tsonis and Mohamed Toufik (Grande Synthe, France).

After Murphy scored at the 87:30 mark after putting home a rebound of a shot by Cal Filtch, the Penmen were awarded a penalty kick just under one minute later, which Lincoln put home for his first collegiate tally.

Joey Kapinos (Ludlow, Mass.) made five saves in goal for the Penmen over the first 79:11 before being relieved by Mark Painchaud (Concord, N.H.), who turned aside a pair of shots.  Silva made six saves for Le Moyne, which was outshot 24-18.  Southern New Hampshire also generated a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Saint Michael's College for a 3:00 Northeast-10 tilt.
