MANCHESTER, N.H.—Danielle Coffey (Westborough, Mass.) totaled 17 kills and seven blocks to lead the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen to a 3-1 win against Merrimack College in non-conference action on Thursday evening. With the win, the Penmen improve to 1-2 on the season, while the loss drops the visiting Warriors to 1-3 overall.
The Penmen won the first game 25-21 before dropping the second set 25-21. They would rally to win the third and fourth games by scores of 25-12 and 27-25 to solidify the win.
In addition to Coffey, the Penmen were led offensively by Megan Lesczynski (Pine Bush, N.Y.), who totaled ten kills and added ten digs on the evening. Emily Winters (Kingston, Ontario) posted 31 assists for the Penmen, while Peyton Williams (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Penmen with 13 digs. Erica Solomon (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) posted a match-best five service aces.
The Warriors were led offensively by Stephanie Sheehan who tallied a match-best 24 kills and also added 14 digs. Jackie Jones posted nine kills and nine digs on the day for the Warriors. Allison Cote led the team in digs with 17, while Brianna Trabucco posted a match-high 33 assists.
Southern New Hampshire posted a .204 hitting percentage on the evening including a match-best .317 hitting percentage in game one. Merrimack finished the day hitting at .154.
The Penmen return to action on Saturday, September 10 when they travel to the University of Bridgeport for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
