Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H.Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.) led four Southern New Hampshire University players in double figures with 16 points as the Penmen downed the University of New Haven 65-59 in Northeast-10 men's basketball Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  SNHU snapped a two-game slide and improved to 9-7 and 5-6 in the NE-10, while the Chargers, who entered the day tied for second in the league standings, are now 11-4 and 7-4 in conference action.

Bonsignore finished 7-12 from the floor.  Aleksandar Dobrovic (Podgorica, Montenegro) knocked down three of his five three-point attempts and finished with 15 points and six rebounds, while Josh Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, Md.) had 12 points on 4-7 shooting.  BJ Cardarelli (Manchester, Conn.) added 10 points for the Penmen.

Justin Exum paced New Haven with 14 points, including a 6-6 effort at the free throw line.  Eric Anderson totaled 13 points, while Jeremy Williams was 3-5 behind the arc and finished with 11 points.

Southern New Hampshire trailed 50-46 with just over six minutes remaining when it used a 7-2 spurt capped by a Morgan-Green three at the five-minute mark to go up 53-52.  The two teams then traded the lead four times over the next 2:32 before a Morgan-Green layup gave the hosts a 58-57 lead.  Dobrovic extended the lead to 61-57 with his third three of the game at the 1:53 mark.

After the two teams traded three empty possessions, SNHU worked the clock down to 28 seconds but came up empty.  New Haven controlled the rebound, and Ade Barek would pull the Chargers within two, 61-59, with 12 seconds left.  On the inbounds, Bonsignore got past New Haven's pressure and was fouled on a successful layup with nine seconds to go, and converted the conventional three-point play.  Anderson would misfire on a three-point attempt, with SNHU's CJ Marriro (Boston, Mass.) controlling the rebound and making 1-of-2 at the line after being fouled.

The Penmen led much of the first half and took their largest lead at the 7:33 mark when a Bonsignore layup that capped a 6-0 run made it 25-16.  Southern New Hampshire took a 32-26 lead into halftime.

New Haven trailed 38-33 when it reeled off nine unanswered points to take a 42-38 lead with 12:25 left on an Ashanti DePass three-pointer.  The Penmen retook the lead on a layup by Cardarelli with 7:44 to go that made it 46-44, but the Chargers scored the game's next six points and an Exum three with 6:11 left gave the guests a 50-46 lead.

Southern New Hampshire knocked down four of its six three-point attempts over the final 20 minutes and finished 8-18 behind the arc for the contest.  The Penmen shot 40.3% for the game, while New Haven was 6-16 from long-range and 41.2% overall.  New Haven outrebounded SNHU 34-32, but the hosts committed a season-low seven turnovers.

SNHU returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts Pace University in a 7:30 Northeast-10 tilt.
