Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sesoo Ikpah totaled 21 points to lead American International College to a 78-66 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University at the SNHU Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets won their second straight to improve to 6-13 and 4-11 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 11-9 and 7-8 in the league.

Ikpah finished 7-11 from the floor and 6-7 at the free throw line to pace three AIC players in double figures.  Janek Schmidkunz drilled five three-pointers and finished with 15 points, while Spencer Braithwaite also recorded 15 points.

Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.) led Southern New Hampshire with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots.  BJ Cardarelli (Manchester, Conn.), Greg DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn.), and Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.) all finished with 12 points for the Penmen.

AIC never trailed and led 13-6 four minutes into the game.  The Yellow Jackets then went on a 16-2 run capped by a Braithwaite layup at the 4:15 mark to build a 29-8 lead.  American International led 34-18 at the break following a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Cardarelli.

The guests made six of their first seven shots from the floor in the second half and opened up a 49-27 lead with 15:30 remaining on a Schmidkunz three.  Down 64-42 with eight minutes left, the Penmen used an 11-2 run capped by a Cardarelli three with four minutes remaining to pull within 13, 66-53.  That would be as close as Southern New Hampshire would get until cutting the advantage to 12 twice in the final minute.

American International shot 14-20 in the second half and 59.6% for the game while the Penmen were 18-27 over the final 20 minutes and 52% for the game.  The Yellow Jackets drained nine of their 16 three-point attempts, while SNHU was 10-22 behind the arc.  The guests held a 26-20 advantage on the glass and took eight more trips to the free throw line, going 13-16 while SNHU was 4-8 at the stripe.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to crosstown rival Saint Anselm College for a 7:30 contest.
