Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jack Keough finished with 19 points as Saint Anselm College outscored Southern New Hampshire University 44-26 in the second half en route to a 77-63 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory Tuesday night at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. The Hawks improve to 9-11 and 7-9 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 11-10 and 7-9 in the league.
Keough finished 7-11 from the floor and also grabbed six rebounds. Andre King drained all three of his three-point attempts and finished with 14 points off the bench, while James Morse added nine points.
Aleksandar Dobrovic (Podgorica, Montenegro) led Southern New Hampshire with 14 points and six rebounds, while Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.) added 12 points off the bench. BJ Cardarelli (Manchester, Conn.) and Phillip Tripodakis (Athens, Greece) each finished with nine points.
SNHU opened up an early 12-4 lead by connecting on four of its first five three-point attempts, but Saint Anselm used a 14-4 run capped by a pair of Harris free throws to take an 18-16 lead at the 9:50 mark. The Hawks upped their lead to 26-21 with just under six minutes before intermission before Southern New Hampshire responded with a 13-3 run capped by a Bonsignore layup 1:40 before the break to build a 34-29 lead, and took a 37-33 advantage into the locker room.
The two teams traded the lead three times early in the second half before Saint Anselm took the lead for good with 16:35 remaining on a Keough basket. The Hawks took control of the game with an 11-2 run capped by a James Morse layup with 10:40 left that gave the hosts a 61-49 lead. A pair of Keough free throws with 7:34 left gave Saint Anselm a 69-52 lead. Southern New Hampshire cut the lead to 12, 71-59, on a Dobrovic three with 5:21 left, but would get no closer.
Saint Anselm shot 57.7% in the second half and 45.8% for the game, including an 8-16 effort behind the arc, while Southern New Hampshire shot 45.8% for the game. The Hawks outrebounded the Penmen 32-30 and turned 22 SNHU turnovers into 24 points.
Southern New Hampshire hosts UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon in a 3:30 Northeast-10 contest.
