Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Andres Torres scored with 1:48 remaining in the second overtime session as visiting University of New Haven stunned 15th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University 2-1 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Chargers improve to 6-8-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 12-3 and 8-3 in the league.
As time wound down in the second overtime session, New Haven's Gui Dos Santos found himself along with a SNHU defender coming down the right side. With Penmen keeper Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) hugging the right post, Dos Santos found a streaking Torres, who shot into an empty net for his fifth goal of the season.
Southern New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead at the 78:02 mark. An initial shot by Jordan Branco (Norton, Mass.) was stopped by Charger goalie Anastasios Petridis, but Kenny Doublette (Greenwich, Conn.) corralled the rebound and put it home for his third goal of the season. The guests tied the game just 1:07 later as Oskar Sewerin headed in a left-to-right corner kick off the foot of Clancy Purcell.
Petridis turned aside 13 shots for New Haven as Southern New Hampshire generated a 33-6 shot advantage on the afternoon. The Penmen also had six of the game's eight corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts The College of Saint Rose in a 4:00 contest at Larkin Field for Senior Day.
