Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) tallied two goals as 13th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University blanked Saint Anselm College by a score of 5-0 Wednesday night in Northeast-10 men's soccer at Saint Anselm's Grappone Stadium. The Penmen extended their win streak to five games and are now 9-1 and 5-1 in the NE-10, while the Hawks are now 3-6-1 and 3-3 in the league.
The five goals scored Wednesday for SNHU marks the most goals in a game since a 6-1 win over the Hawks at home on September 14, 2005.
Tsonis got Southern New Hampshire on the board 14 minutes into the game. He took a pass from Jonathan Lupinelli (Mont de Marsan, France) and curved in a ball from 15 yards. In the 31st minute, Jordan Branco (Norton, Mass.) played a ball up to Tsonis, who found himself alone against Hawk keeper Eric Moriarty. Moriarty went to his left and Tsonis fired from 12 yards for his eighth goal of the season.
Branco made it 3-0 3:16 before intermission with a great individual effort, dribbling through a trio of Saint Anselm defenders and squeezing a shot in between Moriarty and the near left post for his third goal of the season.
Miguel Carneiro (New Milford, Conn.) extended the lead to 4-0 with just over 20 minutes to play with a 10-yarder off a feed from Mohamed Toufik (Grande Synthe, France). With 34 seconds remaining, Joe Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal, with Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.) and Brian Mas (Key Biscayne, Fla.) recording assists on the play.
Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) played the first 78:31 in goal for Southern New Hampshire and made three saves before giving way to Mark Painchaud (Concord, N.H.), who was not forced to make a save in the final 11:29 to complete the shutout. Moriarty played the first 69:37 in goal for Saint Anselm and made two saves while allowing four goals. Mark Kotsopoulos went the rest of the way in net and made one save. The Penmen outshot the Hawks 21-8 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Assumption College in a 7:00 Northeast-10 contest at Larkin Field.
