Volleyball Downs Saint Anselm 3-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire University volleyball team defeated Saint Anselm College Tuesday night in a non-conference home match. The Penmen are now 3-4 while the Hawks are 3-3.

The Penmen got off to a slow start when they lost the first match 25-20, but would not look back as they won the next three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-22.

Emma Houlihan (Shoreham, N.Y.) powered the Penmen offense with a match-high 20 kills on the night. Erica Solomon (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) also contributed while adding 17 kills and a match-high 14 digs for the Penmen. Sophomore setter Kendra Mikuta (Orland Park, Ill.) dished out a match-high 47 assists to go along with 10 digs.

For the Hawks, Shannon Douglas led the team with 11 kills and 13 digs. Setter Natalie Steinwart posted 31 assists, while totaling 11 digs for Saint Anselm.

The Penmen return to action Friday, September 14 when they travel to New York to play Nyack College in non-conference play at 7:00 p.m. The team will also play the following day at Mercy College for a tri-match featuring Mercy and Goldey-Beacom with game times at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
