Volleyball Beats Merrimack En Route to Sixth Straight Win

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire volleyball team defeated Merrimack College Tuesday night in non-conference play by a score of 3-1. The Penmen now improve to 7-4 overall, while Merrimack falls to 2-6.

The Penmen beat the Warriors with set scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, and 25-18. The victory marks the sixth straight win for Southern New Hampshire.

SNHU was powered by the play of Erica Solomon (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) who erupted for a team-high 17 kills and 15 digs. Emma Houlihan (Shoreham, N.Y.) also was an offensive presence for the Penmen while totaling 10 kills in the four sets.

Along with the defensive efforts from Solomon, Kendra Mikuta (Orland Park, Ill.) also added 14 digs for SNHU. In the setter position, Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) dished out 32 assists to contribute to the win.

The Warriors were led defensively by Stephanie Sheehan who had a match-best 20 kills along with 14 digs. Brianna Trabucco totaled 41 assists on the night, and Madison Burke added 13 digs for Merrimack.

The Penmen return to action on Tuesday, September 25 when they host Saint Michael's for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
