Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Kenny Doublette (Greenwich, Conn.) scored twice as Southern New Hampshire University shut out the University of New Haven 4-0 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Saturday afternoon at Kayo Field. The Penmen won their fourth straight and posted their third straight shutout to improve to 4-1 and 2-0 in NE-10 play, while the Chargers are now 0-5-1 and 0-2 in the league.
Doublette's first goal came at the 6:18 mark to give the Penmen a 1-0 lead. SNHU would maintain that lead until the 43rd minute, when graduate student Callum Williams (Ossett, England) scored off a corner kick by sophomore Jonathan Lupinelli (Mont de Marsan, France) to make it 2-0 heading into halftime.
Doublette struck for his second unassisted tally of the game 1:42 after intermission to give Southern New Hampshire a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Ryan Simpson (Manchester, N.H.) closed out the scoring with his first collegiate goal at the 77:25 mark, with Lupinelli notching his second assist of the contest.
Senior Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) played the first 75:08 in goal for the Penmen and registered one save before giving way to sophomore Myles Groenloh (Gevelsberg, Germany) for the final 14:52. Groenloh was not forced to make a save. James Pyatsky played the first half in goal for the Chargers and made three saves, while Jason Smith made three saves over the final 45 minutes. The Penmen held a 16-1 shot advantage on the afternoon and had all five of the game's corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a 7:00 Northeast-10 contest at Larkin Field.
