Samuel's Strike Lifts Men's Soccer to Overtime Triumph

Box Score

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Sophomore Dominic Samuel (Toronto, Ontario) scored 7:05 into the first overtime session to lift Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-1 overtime triumph at Adelphi University in Northeast-10 men's soccer Saturday afternoon.  The Penmen won their sixth straight to improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in NE-10 play, while the Panthers are now 3-4 and 2-1 in the league.

In overtime, Samuel scored following a scramble in front of the Adelphi goal.  An initial shot by Mohamed Toufik (Grande Synthe, France) was blocked by a Penmen defender, but Samuel collected the loose fall and fired it past AU keeper Ahmad Salamah for his first goal of the season.

Southern New Hampshire staked itself to a 1-0 lead just past the game's 25-minute mark.  Samuel headed a feed over to Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.), who fired a low shot off the pass past Salamah for his second goal of the season.  The hosts tied the game on a Diego Zuniga goal in the 59th minute.

Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) went the distance in goal for Southern New Hampshire and made a pair of saves, while Salamah turned aside nine shots as the Penmen outshot the Panthers 23-9, including a 18-4 advantage over the second half and overtime.  SNHU also had six of the game's seven corner kicks.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Stonehill College for a 4:00 Northeast-10 contest.  The next Penmen home game is Saturday, October 5, when SNHU entertains American International College in a 4:00 game at Larkin Field.
