Late Goals Push No. 1 Men's Soccer Past Bentley

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. – Top-ranked Southern New Hampshire University scored four times in the final 18:51 to top Bentley University 4-0 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Wednesday afternoon at a rainy Bentley Soccer Field.  The Penmen remain unbeaten and now stand at 13-0-1 and 10-0-1 in the NE-10, while the Falcons are now 4-9-1 and 3-6-1 in the league.

With the win, the Penmen are unbeaten in 37 straight games dating back to last season (35-0-2), taking sole possession of the second-longest unbeaten streak in Division II history.  Southern Connecticut State University was unbeaten in 41 in a row from 1989-91. SNHU is also undefeated in its last 32 Northeast-10 regular season and tournament games (31-0-1).

After a scoreless first half, just the second time the Penmen had been blanked in the first half all season and the first since the September 4 season opener against Bloomfield, Southern New Hampshire erupted for four goals late.  At the 71:09 mark, Miguel Carneiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) played a free kick into the box that Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.) knocked home from 12 yards for his eighth goal of the season.  32 seconds later, Gilbert Manier (Kigali, Rwanda) made it 2-0 on a give-and-go with Carneiro for his third goal of the season.

Sofiane Tergou (Bitche, France) made it 3-0 in the 75th minute when he took a pass from Carneiro, dribbled into the box, and scored from eight yards out for his fourth goal of the season.  Joe Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y.) closed out the scoring with three seconds remaining when he put home a cross from Brian Grisell (Brookfield, Conn.) for his first goal of the season.

Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) recorded a pair of saves for his fifth shutout of the season in goal for Southern New Hampshire, while Bentley counterpart Jack Blatchford stopped three shots.  The Penmen held a commanding 18-2 shot advantage and took six of the game's eight corner kicks.

Southern New Hampshire hits the road for the final time in the regular season Saturday when it travels to Le Moyne College for a 2:00 Northeast-10 contest.
